I embrace my cynicism once more

Recently, I'd felt that doubt had begun to creep into my cynical core beliefs. Now, the 2016 national election in the United States has restored my fundamental assumptions regarding the inability of human beings to act in their own best interests. I include myself, of course. Really. Among other things, my cynicism is a serious flaw.

But back to the election. Two things:

1. People are afraid. People are always afraid of one thing or another: loss of possessions, employment, health, freedom, love or life. Loss of control, mostly. But also afraid of things or people different or unfamiliar. Many would-be leaders exploit those fears to their own ends, amplifying the fears and then suggesting that they alone have all the answers. It's a cheap and easy trick.

2. Very few Americans seem to understand that, when they weaken the rights of others, they weaken their own rights at the same time. Part of the problem is that those folks seem to think it will never happen to them. Famous last words, eh?

Many years ago, a counselor said to me that, "The more insecurity you can live with, the fuller your life will be."

GOPenstein's Monster

The Republicans kept pushing and pushing
the fear-mongering envelope until
finally it ripped apart and out stepped

TA DA

DONALD THE TRUMP!

Now deal with it.
